When our next door neighbors (and friends) announced that they were moving to California, we were sad for lots of reasons. We were very lucky to have such a great relationship with them over the last few years. We used each others yards interchangeably, could always count on each other for borrowing eggs or whatever food ingredient was forgotten for the recipe at the last minute, our kids ran in and out of each others houses and on lazy evenings after work it was always great to have such a close playmate in Myles and great friends in Jon and Karen right next door.

When Jon and Karen moved at the end of July, they rented out their house to friends of theirs and assured us that we would love them when they moved in mid-August. We were skeptical - not because we thought we wouldn't like them but because it's nearly impossible to replicate that neighbor-friend relationship. But to our surprise, within just a few short weeks of their move we can tell that we're going to have fabulous neighbors! They have two children, Elias, 6 and Saira, 3 and the kids have quickly all become Besties. Before the kids had a chance to interact, I assumed that Elise and Saira would become fast friends. They are only about a year apart and

Elise loves girls and girly things. She has been refusing to play with boys at school for years now. Not to mention that she loves bossing people around and younger children are usually more likely to put up with it!

Surprisingly though, it is Elise and Elias who have become close buddies - despite that fact that Elias is a BOY they play very, very well together and LOVE hanging out. Lucas and Saira have also become great pals, although I think Lucas is more into their friendship than she is - she seems happy to see him while he gives her a cat-like-hyper-excitement reaction. Even though they tend to pair off, they actually all play very well together and are already constantly begging to play together morning noon and night. We are already using our yards interchangeably and are counting on each other for eggs and such. Of course, we do miss Karen, Jon and Myles - but we are very excited to have new friends to get to know.
