Goodbye + Hello = Big Change

The summer has been anything but boring for the Molloy family. There has been a lot going on - particularly this past month: endings, beginnings, hellos and goodbyes - and it all adds up to lots and lots of change.

The biggest change being Marty's new job. Marty and I have worked in the same place for three and a half years - since Elise was a mere six month old baby (which feels like a billion, zillion years ago). Working together was awesome for lots of reasons but it was particularly convenient for our family. We had all the same days off (including all Fridays in the summer, snow days, 10 days at Christmas break and so on) and we commuted together (which means doing daycare drop off and pick up together - super helpful when you have two kids in two different rooms).

Marty began his new job in the middle of July and we are still adjusting. Because we're no longer going to the same place, working the same hours or getting the same days off, we're getting to experience what most families do - doing lots of the day-to-day kid stuff separately. Which is decidedly less fun! Just the daily solo drop off and pick up from daycare has been a huge change in itself. Elise and Lucas, who like most kids love their routine and hate change, are actually adjusting pretty well to the new set up and are finally beginning to understand that we go to work at separate places (well, at least Elise is starting to figure it out and is no longer asking to speak to Daddy when she calls me at work!)

Another big family change is that we have some new roommates! My cousin Lauren, who had been living in Virginia for the last several years, moved in with us about a week ago. Having another helping hand with the kids has been awesome - and particularly wonderful timing as we're all adjusting to Marty's new job. Elise and Lucas absolutely adore their "Aunt Louie" and are super excited to have another loving person to drag around, spoil them and show off for. With our new roomy Lauren came her two cats, Esme and Stella B. As you can imagine, Lucas, who is the ultimate cat lover, has been in a complete frenzy over having not one but two cats IN HIS HOUSE. The cats are slightly less excited about their new roommate Lucas, who screams, shrieks and acts like a complete maniac every time he sees them or hears the bell on their little collars. Luckily, he doesn't actually see them all that often, because they typically run and hide whenever they hear him come a'thumpin'. I am sure that in time they will grow to love him as much as he loves them!

Another big change is that our beloved neighbors, Karen, Jon and Myles, have relocated to California. Elise and Myles were born just a few weeks apart and they have enjoyed playing together since before they were even crawling. We all spent lots of time together and the kids saw Myles's yard and house as an extension of their own (and vice-versa). Losing such great neighbors and friends is quite a blow for our whole family. But, the show must go on. They have rented their house to another family with children - a six year old boy and three year old girl - and we're excited to meet them in the coming weeks and have high hopes that they will be just as wonderful neighbors and friends.

We have some more exciting trips, visits and adventures still to come - the summer is still not over!
