Quick Update

Between travel plans, work and general Spring/Summer schedule craziness things are hectic in the Molloy household. As a quick update, Marty went to Oregon for work last week for four days, giving me a big taste of how crazy it is to be a single parent with two children, and Marty a taste of how horrible it is to be away from the kids for four days! We all survived but are happy that everyone is home. For now anyway. I am traveling next weekend to meet up with college friends in Texas, which will be the first time I have ever been away from Lucas overnight! I am sure that it will be fine, but I am feeling pretty anxious about leaving. He has always been a very laid back baby, but lately he's been a little bit more clingy to me and Marty - he is a cuddler and suddenly doesn't really like it when we walk away from him or leave the room. Hopefully he will not have any issues with my absence (although I am certain I will have issues with being away from him!)

Lucas is still making no real progress on the crawling front, but he is making great strides with pulling up. He loves standing and can pull himself up without much (sometimes without any) help - his favorite thing to pull up on is a leg or arm, and he sort of scales his way up and then beams at you - si incredibly proud of himself. He still doesn't really understand the concept of walking - when he holds your fingers, he doesn't really attempt to take steps (which Ellie did when she was only weeks old), even when you try to direct him to do so. All of these things will come in time and he's in no rush so we're in no rush for him to get there. For the past two weeks or so, Lucas has been rising for the day between 5:15 and 5:30 (as opposed to between 6 - 6:30) which has been a little bit exhausting for everyone, especially since he has been waking Ellie up too. (This morning Ellie said "Did Lucas say he was sorry for waking me up? He needs to say he's sorry!") We're unsure why this shift occurred and we're not loving it, but it is better than waking up in the middle of the night so we're trying not to complain too much.

Elise is becoming a big girl more and more every day. She is starting to ask lots of questions and seems to want to know every detail about everything ("Did you just say Jon? Are you talking about Jon next door? Why did you say Jon? Is Jon coming over to our house? What's Jon doing?"). Routinely now, whenever we get into the car she asks how we're going to get where we're going. So we tell her the roads that we will take to get there, and then after the overview she wants us to give a play by play about which road we're on and which road is next. I guess she is just absolutely thirsty to know the details of everything at all times. She's a micro-manager.

In June, Ellie will begin toddler soccer! It's going to be a fairly informal weekly gathering of families at a local park (kids ages ranging from 2-4) and I am definitely envisioning mass chaos but I think she's going to love it. She has recently been really into playing soccer with the goal that uncle Kevin gave her for her birthday last year and she's actually getting pretty good. If she kicks the ball in the wrong direction, she tends to pick it up and put it where she wanted it to go, but whatever.

Two quick Ellie "love stories":

Last week Ellie, Luke and I were playing and Ellie picked up a random stuffed animal that doesn't even have a name and gave it a huge hug and kiss and fawned over how much she loved him. I said something about how she was giving all this love to this random stuffed animal and hey what about me and Lucas? She looked completed exasperated and said "Of course I love you guys, Mom!"

The other day we were sitting at dinner and I randomly said "I love you sweetie" and she replied, "Oh, I knew that."
