The mid Atlantic got quite a wallop this weekend with an impressive December storm that dumped tons of snow over the region. The kids - particularly Lucas - really enjoyed watching the snow fall (and there was plenty of opportunity for that since it was falling for like 24 hours straight, dumping nearly two feet of snow on us). He could have sat and looked out of the window for hours - it was just so captivating to him. A little more adventurous this year, Elise ventured out with her Dad for long walks, sledding expeditions and snowman building both in the falling snow and after the snow finally stopped falling.

In addition to having fun with Daddy, Elise also got a chance to romp around in the snow with her pal Audrey on Sunday. The girls had so much fun together making snow angels and sledding and giggling together in the snow. It was so adorable! Since Lucas is just getting over being sick, we decided it was probably not a great idea to take Lucas out in the falling snow on Saturday. But by late Sunday afternoon, it seemed like a real shame that he hadn't had the chance to get up close and personal with the snow yet!
So we bundled him up and brought him out for a short stint. He was very interested in the snow (and very interested in our snowman) but he did not necessarily want anything to do with it - looking at it was what was interesting. Not touching it. He pretty much stood still and looked around - though I am not sure if he didn't want to walk or if he physically couldn't walk with all those layers of clothes. When I tried to get him to touch the snow or sit him in it he freaked out and cried. I think he just prefers enjoying the snow from afar (like his Mommy!).
Much like her mother, Elise has never been one to particularly embrace the cold. She has even been known to burst into tears on the way from the house to the car because her hands got too cold in those 45 seconds. So it was rather surprising that this year the cold (and it was COLD) didn't really seem to bother her. Maybe it is more accurate to say that she and her father were having such a blast romping around in the snow that she overlooked the fact that she was cold and focused on all the fun she was having! She had such a great time - she never even complained about the bundling up process each time she went out or about her clothes being wet.
